Prison Requests Urgent Pump Repair

Harroquip were called into the prison to assess a failing pump for repair. Sometimes it’s more economical to replace a broken pump than repair it. Our initial assessment deemed the pump beyond economic repair.

But the pump needed replacing urgently. And there were a few critical factors against us:

• The lead time on a new pump was too long to wait.

• The new replacement pump was bigger than the old pump.

• The space constraints onsite would make it more difficult and more time consuming to fit the new pump.

Repairing the pump actually worked out the best solution in this situation.

The Harroquip team set out repairing the pump as quickly as possible to reduce downtime and minimise disruption to the prison. To repair the pump, our engineers fitted a new motor and specially modified machining the shaft to improve compatibility with the pump components and increase the pumping efficiency.

The repairs were carried out in our fully equipped workshop in Hull. Once the pump was built back up it was then returned to site, where it was installed and ran perfectly.
